ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to compare management practices and output of private and public secondary schools in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select Twelve Secondary Schools in the locality, four private and eight public schools. Comparative study of management practices and output questionnaire (CSMPOQ) and the result of students from sampled school was used to collect data. The main hypothesis and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Pearson product moment correlation and T-test were used to analyse the data collected.

The study found that there are significant differences between management practice and output of private and public secondary schools. Private secondary school students performed better than public schools. It was deduced from this study that effective management practices enhance student academic performance.

It was concluded that for maximum productivity in private and public secondary schools, teachers should be well remunerated, well motivated, better recognized and be assisted to work under congenital conditions.
